One Search Box

The front door to everything

There is one search box at the top of every page, and it tries to work out what you meant. A word searches the King James. A number opens the number search. H430 opens a Strong's entry. John 3:16 goes straight to the verse. A handful of short prefixes reach everything else.

Try an example

Type anything into the search box in the top bar, or pick an example — this is where the real box would take you.

What you can do here

1

Words and phrases

Search one word or several, wrap an exact phrase in quotes, wildcard the end of a word with *, or exclude one with -.

2

Narrow as you go

Start a term with & to add it to the search you just ran instead of starting over.

3

Patterns, not just words

Find the nth occurrence of a word in the whole Bible, a word repeated inside one verse, or a phrase by the lengths of its words.

4

An advanced builder

The Searches menu opens a query builder: groups of terms, per-term options, and minimum and maximum occurrences.

Try these in the search box

Type any of them into the search box at the top of the page once you are signed in.

"For God so loved" An exact phrase.
Elijah|Elias Either spelling — the same man, named two ways between the Testaments.
Israel@1919 The verse holding the 1,919th occurrence of Israel.
God{4} Verses where God appears exactly four times.
"7 7 7 7" Four seven-letter words in a row.
John 3.16 A period instead of a colon opens the verse analysis.
“Most searches on this site are arrived at by narrowing, not by getting the question right on the first attempt.”
